Nature Reimagined

Description

Description

At first glance this design appears to be an emulation of Venetian velvets of the 17th or 18th centuries but in fact, the inspiration behind this creation comes from the stunning landscape of western Persia, the Zagros mountain range with its snowy peaks, the abundant rivers and the unique wildlife, in particular the Ram. The outlines of two pairs of affronted Rams appear large at the top and bottom of the central field. Horned rams’ heads are also depicted in a stylised fashion harking back to the ancient cave etchings found in the same region. The ornamentation is classical in detail and yet the overall effect is modern. There is also an illusion of three-dimensionality, achieved by the ingenious interplay of shadow and light, even though the pile surface is entirely level. Beyond all inspirations, nature is the most authentic one.
